American Jewry, Israel and the Crisis of Zionism: Pre and Post-October 7th

Wednesday, December 11, 2024 10:00–11:30 AM
  • Location
    Barry and Florence Friedberg Auditorium
  • Description
Zionism, rooted in Jewish nationalism, has intertwined humanitarian, moral, cultural, and religious values with its core mission since its inception. American supporters, regardless of political leanings, have championed Israel as the embodiment of Zionist ideals. However, this support faces strain due to various factors, from concerns over U.S. and Israeli policies to ideological shifts and generational changes within American society and Jewry. The emergence of movements like BDS and intersectionality, coupled with intensified discourse during Israel's Gaza War and the surge in anti-Semitism, reflects this complex landscape. In this lecture, Dr. Rabil delves into the depth and diverse impulses shaping the crisis within the Jewish community in response to rising anti-Semitism and the multifaceted challenges confronting Israel as a nation and state.

"Rabil is very, very good. What young folks might call "crazy good." OLLI Patron
