FAU Hosts Events for Women's History Month
Florida Atlantic University will host more than a dozen events to celebrate Women’s History Month at its Boca Raton and Davie campuses.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.” It honors women in every community in all forms of media and storytelling who have dedicated their lives and talents to pursuing truth, producing art and reflecting the human condition. The events are free and open to FAU students, faculty and staff. Events may be added on a continual basis throughout the month of March.

Women’s History Month Pop-up Library
Available all of March
From the FAU Libraries, this virtual display of books, videos, databases and more celebrates the contributions of women to culture, history and society. Spend the month celebrating, reading and learning.

Panel Discussion: ‘The Complexity of Women in Leadership: Navigating Work, Family and Life in 2023’
Tuesday, March 7, 5:30 p.m.
Each woman is a leader and carries a phenomenal influence in society. This panel discussion, moderated by Patricia Temes, Ph.D., will create an inviting atmosphere to explore the complexity of womanhood and leadership. Panelists will exchange ideas and strategies based on their own experiences with balancing family, life and a successful career. Panelists will also discuss how to navigate common challenges including self-guilt and discrimination so that women can lead with their best foot forward.

Strong Like a Girl – Mindfulness Karate
Tuesday, March 14, 6:15 p.m.
This specialty fitness class will celebrate women's strength from a holistic approach. The room will be decorated to celebrate women's strength throughout history while highlighting the women participating in the room. The instructor will have cues that will be celebrating the theme as well. This event is open to everyone who would like to attend.

Student Government's Phenomenal Women's Brunch
Wednesday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Majestic Palm Room, FAU Student Union
Celebrate Women's History Month with Florida Atlantic University's Student Government. This women's brunch will consist of women empowering each other in school and in the workplace. It will be filled with performances and poetry.

Women’s Leadership Institute
Wednesday, March 15 through Friday, March 17
FAU’s Women and Gender Resource Center is hosting this annual conference for women and those who feel their liberation is tied to the liberation of women to network, skill-build and empower. Through this multi-day event, the focus is on the power of social and emotional intelligence. This year’s theme, “GreatHER Expectations: Embracing the Power of Possibility” will give participants the opportunity to explore not only their own possibility but the possibility of coming together to uplift one another.

The Owls Nest at the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence
Barriers to women's career advancement have often been attributed to the perception that women are more "emotional" than their male/masculine presenting counterparts. Identifying that the negative perception of women expressing emotions is harmful, while simultaneously understanding emotions and those of others, can be essential in navigating personal and professional dynamics. Therefore, understanding and using skills taught in social and emotional intelligence will be the topic of the lunch and learn.

Through a series of breakout sessions, participants will get the opportunity to learn and understand more about the strength and power in their emotions. Breakouts will explore the ways in which social and emotional intelligence can be essential in leadership and communication, especially for women.
