Spring Powerful Minds Week Runs Feb. 25-March 2
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is set to host its spring semester Powerful Minds week February 25-March 2. A number of events are planned by Florida Atlantic's Student-Athlete Success Center and sponsored by Gro Yoga & Wellness.
The first event is Sunday's softball games at Joan Joyce Field with FAU hosting Columbia (11:30 a.m.) and Rhode Island (1:45 p.m.). Women's basketball's Mental Health Awareness Game is Wednesday when the Owls welcome Tulane at 7 p.m. The week concludes next Saturday with baseball's Mental Health Awareness Game at 4 p.m. vs. Stonehill.
The Student-Athlete Success Center has also planned a number of events targeted directly for FAU's student-athletes.
Gro Yoga & Wellness is offering a free introductory class special to all Florida Atlantic students. To take advantage of the promotion, call 561-334-3001 or visit www.groyogawellness.com.
During all athletic events this week, coaching staffs across the conference will wear green ribbon patches and baseball and softball student-athletes will have green ribbon patches on their helmets. The AAC also has produced a PSAs featuring student-athletes and coaches that will be run in- venue during games, as well as features that can be played in-venue and on ESPN+ telecasts.
Green, the color of mental health awareness nationally, has been seen by The American's fans during designated athletic contests throughout the years and the Conference's #PowerfulMinds hashtag has been used prominently on all of its social media accounts.
The American Athletic Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee, representing the more than 7,000 student-athletes in the Conference, continues to make mental health and safety its top priority. With the inception of its Powerful Minds Campaign in the fall of 2017, The American SAAC has helped create awareness to mental health issues and the resources available for student-athletes. The definitive goal has been to end the stigma related to seeking help and promoting academic and personal success through a healthy, powerful mind.
