FAU Hosts Events for Women's History Month

Florida Atlantic University will host more than a dozen events to celebrate Women's History Month at its Boca Raton and Davie campuses.

Florida Atlantic University will host more than a dozen events to celebrate Women’s History Month at its Boca Raton and Davie campuses.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.” It honors women in every community in all forms of media and storytelling who have dedicated their lives and talents to pursuing truth, producing art and reflecting the human condition. The events are free and open to FAU students, faculty and staff. Events may be added on a continual basis throughout the month of March.

The following events will take place virtually or at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:

Women’s History Month Pop-up Library

Available all of March

From the FAU Libraries, this virtual display of books, videos, databases and more celebrates the contributions of women to culture, history and society. Spend the month celebrating, reading and learning.


Panel Discussion: ‘The Complexity of Women in Leadership: Navigating Work, Family and Life in 2023’ 

Tuesday, March 7, 5:30 p.m.

Each woman is a leader and carries a phenomenal influence in society. This panel discussion, moderated by Patricia Temes, Ph.D., will create an inviting atmosphere to explore the complexity of womanhood and leadership. Panelists will exchange ideas and strategies based on their own experiences with balancing family, life and a successful career. Panelists will also discuss how to navigate common challenges including self-guilt and discrimination so that women can lead with their best foot forward.


Strong Like a Girl – Mindfulness Karate

Tuesday, March 14, 6:15 p.m.

This specialty fitness class will celebrate women's strength from a holistic approach. The room will be decorated to celebrate women's strength throughout history while highlighting the women participating in the room. The instructor will have cues that will be celebrating the theme as well. This event is open to everyone who would like to attend. 


Student Government's Phenomenal Women's Brunch

Wednesday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Majestic Palm Room, FAU Student Union

Celebrate Women's History Month with Florida Atlantic University's Student Government. This women's brunch will consist of women empowering each other in school and in the workplace. It will be filled with performances and poetry. 


Women’s Leadership Institute

Wednesday, March 15 through Friday, March 17

FAU’s Women and Gender Resource Center is hosting this annual conference for women and those who feel their liberation is tied to the liberation of women to network, skill-build and empower. Through this multi-day event, the focus is on the power of social and emotional intelligence. This year’s theme, “GreatHER Expectations: Embracing the Power of Possibility” will give participants the opportunity to explore not only their own possibility but the possibility of coming together to uplift one another. 


Panel Discussion on Women's Intersecting Identities

Thursday, March 16, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Majestic Palm Room, FAU Student Union

In this panel, women will discuss and reflect on their personal journeys and consider how women's intersecting identities allow us to analyze their overlapping careers and on their individual need for self-care.


How to Network for Success

Thursday, March 16, from 4 to 5 p.m.

Join the Florida Atlantic University Career Center and the Women and Gender Equity Resource Center for a how-to networking session. Come gain networking skills with Career Center's featured employer - Behavioral Family Solutions.


Women's Inspiration and Leadership League Lunch and Learn

Friday, March 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Owls Nest at the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence

Barriers to women's career advancement have often been attributed to the perception that women are more "emotional" than their male/masculine presenting counterparts. Identifying that the negative perception of women expressing emotions is harmful, while simultaneously understanding emotions and those of others, can be essential in navigating personal and professional dynamics. Therefore, understanding and using skills taught in social and emotional intelligence will be the topic of the lunch and learn.


Exploring the Strength in Our Emotions: WLI Feature Presentations

Friday, March 17, from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence – Classrooms 109, 110, 111 and 112

Through a series of breakout sessions, participants will get the opportunity to learn and understand more about the strength and power in their emotions. Breakouts will explore the ways in which social and emotional intelligence can be essential in leadership and communication, especially for women.

Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence – Auditorium (SF 107)

Celebrate with the Florida Atlantic community all the staff, students and departments that embody the spirit of Women's Leadership Institute. There will be an award ceremony and closing reception with special remarks made by Naelys Luna, Ph.D., dean of the Phyllis & Harvey Sandler School of Social Work.

Join FAU Victim Services for a discussion for all who identify as a woman to self-reflect and celebrate Women's History Month. This discussion is about women who have made history as heroes, heroes in their own lives, and reflecting as a group.


Women and Depression Peer Education and Outreach Event 

Thursday, March 23, from noon to 2 p.m.

Diversity Way

Join Owls Care Health Promotion as they discuss how women's mental health treatment has changed over the years, current trends in mental health, spotlight women in psychology, and discuss resources on campus. 


Career Pathways

Monday, March 27, 4 p.m.

The Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is hosting this statewide Zoom event. Rep. Anna Eskamani will be the keynote speaker, alongside a panel of illustrious WGSS alumni from institutions across Florida.


Heels and Deals: Women’s Round Table Discussion 

Thursday, March 30, from 5 to 6 p.m.

FAU's First and Proud, an organization that provides first-generation college students with a community that fosters personal growth and academic success and embodies what it means to be the first in their family to attend college, is hosting a social event where women in business come together to speak on women-focused topics and accomplishments. 


Be the She-e-o

Thursday, March 30, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Palmetto Palm Room, FAU Student Union

This event, hosted by the National Organization for Women, is to uplift local, women-owned businesses and to promote women/femme-led entrepreneurship and financial success. The goal is to bring attention to these local businesses and allow them to promote themselves to FAU students.

Broward College Student Lounge

Create custom candles with the Broward Program Board and Broward House of Representatives to learn about historical women who changed the future. Find out how women have impacted science, art, literature, business, engineering and in the present world.
