    September 11th | 10:30 am - 2 pm Breezeway
    Hosted by Owls Care Health Promotion and CAPS, Learn how students can play a role in suicide Prevention. Resources, games, crafts, and giveaways available!
  • Wall of Encouragement
    Follow @fauowlscare and @fau_caps to see specific dates and times where you can contribute!
    Write encouraging/hopeful notes on the Wall of Encouragement at the residence halls at various times.
1. RECOGNIZE

Recognize signs of distress

  • Talking about killing themselves
  • Looking for ways to kill themselves
  • Visible scars
  • Substance use
  • No sense of purpose
  • Anxiety or agitation
  • Feeling trapped
  • No sense of hope
  • Withdrawal from social activities
  • Anger or revenge
  • Reckless or risky activities
  • Dramatic mood changes
  • Giving away prized possessions/seeking long term care for pets
  • Changes to sleep
  • Sudden improvement
2. RESPOND

Respond to needs and concerns

3. REFER

Refer them to resources

"It sounds like things are really tough right now. If you are feeling unsure about wanting to live, I would like to share information about the counseling center we have access to on campus. CAPS provides free and confidential support to students. Their number is 561-297-2277 and it works 24/7 in case students need crisis support after-hours. We can call them together, or we can walk to the CAPS office.”
