'Frontiers in Science' Presents Lecture on Safeguarding our Coastlines
The 2025 Schmidt College of Science “Frontiers in Science Public Lecture Series” at FAU will host “Future-Proofing Our Coasts: Leveraging Science for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” on Feb. 19.
The 2025 Charles E. Schmidt College of Science “Frontiers in Science Public Lecture Series” at Florida Atlantic University will host “Future-Proofing Our Coasts: Leveraging Science for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the Live Oak Pavilion, Student Union, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
A panel of experts will discuss cutting-edge research and the latest strategies designed to safeguard the country’s coastlines for generations to come. Topics include advancements in urban planning, infrastructure development and green solutions; the vital role coastal ecosystems play in mitigating climate change; and best practices for engaging residents, businesses and policymakers to develop and implement effective adaptation strategies.
The event panel includes Jennifer Jurado, Ph.D., chief resilience officer, deputy department director at Broward County Government; Serena Hoermann, Ph.D., interim director, Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions, Schmidt College of Science; Weibo Liu, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Geosciences, Schmidt College of Science; and Stephanie Wakefield, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Schmidt College of Science.
Following the discussion, a Q&A session will be moderated by Valery Forbes, Ph.D., dean of the Schmidt College of Science.
